Nodame Cantabile (JPN, 2006)

Ketika doramanya keluar, seorang teman pun langsung merekomendasikan dorama ini ke saya (thx for my friend, KU!). Yosh, setelah lama berburu akhirnya ketemu juga nih dorama.

Title – Nodame Cantabile
Casts – Ueno Juri, Hiroshi Tamaki, Eita, etc.
Duration – 11 episodes
Succeeded by – SP episodes + movies
Original media – Nodame Cantabile (manga) by Ninomiya Tomoko

Synopsis

Chiaki Shinichi (Hiroshi Tamaki) is a talented young man who can play piano and violin well. Although he took Piano Major at University, his ultimate dream is becoming a conductor under Sebastian Viera guidance. Due to a phobia that he had, he turned down his dream for not being able to go abroad by plane nor ship. Little did he know that his meeting with Nodame (Ueno Juri) – extremely ‘genius’ yet weird pianist – would change his world and future…

Personal Notes

Ninomiya Tomoko-sensei memang yahud.

Beeeuuh… Luar biasa. Apalagi kalo saya ingat perjuangan para anggota S-Oke di bawah ‘tangan besi’ Chiaki hehe. Dimulai dari kesediaan Chiaki make kaos seragam, ditambah gaya rocker ala Ryutaro Mine (Eita), dan semangat mereka sampai akhir. Keren gila! Suka banget!

Personal Score

Idea and Story Development: 5*
Well done. This is one of very few live action doramas that adapt their manga counterpart in a perfect way. It is a perfect mix of humorous moments, weird yet cute love scenes, and the serious ones as well. It is neither slow nor fast paced dorama. The creators successfully pick the best scenes from the manga to fit the 11 episodes duration.

Casts and Characters: 4,5*
All characters are lovable. They are very convincing in playing the music, as if they are pros!!! Each of the them has distinct character and role so he/she won’t be forgotten easily. Great casts and great acting!!! But, Takenaka Naoto-san couldn’t fool people. His appearance doesn’t look like German, at all. ^^

Music and Sounds: 5*
All famous yet ear-catching classical pieces are all over this dorama. Great pick, minna!!! I love Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.2. The others are very nice indeed.

Technique (Camera Style, Effects, Set Decoration, etc): 5*
I give my thumbs for their comical scenes. I remember seeing how the creators took shots on “Nodame’s rolls and hits the rock”. They are all serious. They made Ueno Juri jumps, had a stunt to hit the rock in her head, and edited them. The result made me laugh in surprise. In my opinion, editing is an important factor in making comical scenes surprisingly laughable. Nodame is the best example for this.

Opening and Ending: 5*
The first episode impressed me with Mozart’s Two Pianos. I really love that song. How Nodame and Chiaki play the piece together is priceless. The ending is also marvelous. Closing the whole series by opening a new path for all the characters (and bridging the series to SP episodes and movies ^^) with a good-bye performance, wew, it made me almost cry. T.T Superb!!!

Overall Score: 4,9*

1,0 – 1,9 = Don’t even try to see it, ever!!!
2,0 – 2,9 = You may see it, on your own risk though.
3,0 – 3,9 = Entertaining to watch. Try to see it.
4,0 – 4,9 = Must See!!!
5,0         = Absolutely Superb!!!
